This image draws inspiration from the 1970s -1990s era in Jericho Estate, Eastlands Nairobi… a time of iconic style, resilience, and local pride. “Buda Odhis” or “Baba Odhiambo” reflects the spirit of Jericho’s old-school boxing champions, complete with retro fashion and homemade gym weights. Growing up in Jericho exposed me to a rich mix of talent from music and fashion to sports and street art and this photo is a nostalgic homage to that golden era and the powerful energy of my community.

How long has Moh Mackenzie loved photography:

I’ve loved photography for over a decade. What began as a simple curiosity evolved into a powerful outlet for emotion, creativity, cultural expression, and storytelling.

How they discovered their passion for photography:

I found my artistic path in Jericho…not initially behind the camera, but in front of it as a model. I used to design and style my own creative shoots, often salvaging discarded materials to create bold, beautiful costumes. Although another photographer handled the camera, it was in those moments of creative direction and visual storytelling that I discovered my voice as an artist. Eventually, I transitioned behind the lens, realizing photography was another powerful way for me to create and share the world I see.
