About Mike Wamaina's work:
Photo Theme:
Fragments of Connection
Photo Story:
This photo was taken during a school trip. As I was walking around the area I spotted the group mid-conversation and I waited by the intersection of the curtains for one of them to leave to capture the perfect moment. The expression on his face was an added bonus. My goal was to showcase the moments where connection exists but not in its entirety. The composition gives the feeling of mystery, separation and quiet observation. It captures that moment where we as the viewer are both inside and outside a scene — part of it, yet hidden.
How long has Mike Wamaina loved photography:
For a while but I truly embraced about 5 years ago.
How they discovered their passion for photography:
My passion of photography deepened with my love for cinema. I had been a casual for the better part of my life till when I turned 21 and started paying to attention to movies beyond the mainstream blockbusters and dived deeper into cinema's rich history. Paying much attention to and studying the filmmakers' use of composition, I then turned my attentions to still images and learned of the greats like Henri Cartier Bresson, Alex Webb, Gordon Parks, Irving Penn and others and that's when I realized I wanted to pursue this passion and beautiful medium of photography.
