About Eiden Lenkai's work:
Photo Theme:
Wildlife Photography
Photo Story:
It was 6:30 a.m., the air still cool and quiet as I drove into Nairobi National Park. I remember setting my ISO to 150, the familiar click of the dial grounding me before I removed the cap from my lens. Just 900 meters past the end of the tarmac, near the water feature, I spotted them — a group of lionesses resting with their cubs. The mothers were still asleep, their breathing steady, while the cubs rolled and tumbled in playful bursts of energy.

For nearly forty minutes, I watched in stillness as the morning light unfolded over the scene. Then, slowly, the pride began to stir and make its way to the other side of the water feature. One lioness paused, standing tall, and looked directly in my direction. Behind her rose the distant silhouettes of apartment buildings and warehouses — symbols of the ever-expanding city.

In that single frame, two worlds collided: the raw, wild, and untamed beauty of nature set against the quiet advance of modern life. It was a reminder that even as the city grows, the spirit of the wild endures — patient, powerful, and profoundly alive.
How long has Eiden Lenkai loved photography:
About 5 or 6 years now
How they discovered their passion for photography:
I began my photography journey during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. What started as a simple curiosity with macro photography—capturing rain droplets on plants and tiny insects—quickly evolved into a deep passion. As I developed my skills, I attended several photography classes and learned about composition, lighting, and the importance of subject matter.

My exploration eventually led me to wildlife photography, where I truly found my niche. The patience and dedication required to observe nature in its raw, unfiltered form—and to capture those fleeting, powerful moments—is an experience unlike any other. From the intimate tenderness of a lioness with her cubs to the dramatic clashes of male giraffes asserting dominance, every encounter reminds me why I fell in love with this craft.

While the early 5 a.m. starts to reach national parks can be challenging, the reward of witnessing and documenting the natural world makes every moment worthwhile.
