This photo captures a spontaneous and playful moment at Cafe Cassia, Nairobi. The young man in the picture is the cafe's photographer, who spends most of his time behind the camera creating content for the brand. He expressed an interest in being featured in the content himself, so I decided to turn the camera towards him and capture this relaxed, humorous moment.

A few days later, the cafe owner loved the photograph and asked him to share it on the cafe's Instagram page. What makes this image special to me is its spontaneity. It tells a story about seeing beauty in ordinary moments, appreciating the people behind a brand, and capturing genuine personality rather than simply creating a posed photograph.

How long has NICHOLAS NYAMONGO ONYIEGO loved photography:

Photography has been a passion of mine for about 3 years. I love how a single photograph can tell a story, preserve a moment and communicate emotions without needing words. I am particularly drawn to capturing authentic moments, unique perspectives and the beauty in everyday experiences. Every photograph is an opportunity for me to see the world differently and tell a story through my lens.

How they discovered their passion for photography:

My passion for photography began with my natural creative eye and curiosity about how images can tell stories, capture emotions, and communicate experiences. In 2023, I got an opportunity to join the Advanced Multimedia Program at NairoBits Trust, where I developed my skills in photography, videography, video production and editing, graphic design, and digital content creation.

The training further strengthened my passion for creativity and visual storytelling, opening my mind to the power of capturing authentic moments through photography and videography. Since then, I have continued developing my creative skills and looking for opportunities to put my knowledge into practice.

Recently, I had the opportunity to capture a spontaneous and playful moment at Café Cassia, Nairobi. Seeing my photograph featured on Café Cassia's original website was a rewarding experience because it gave me an opportunity to see my creativity reach a real audience. It also motivated me to keep learning, experimenting, and growing as a photographer and digital media creative.
